(DALLAS) July 9, 2015 – To meet the continued need for printed directories, Dex Media, Inc. (NASDAQ: DXM) introduces redesigned Yellow Pages phone books incorporating larger print, more advertising space and expanded buying information on local businesses.
Published by AT&T, Century Link and Verizon, the directories highlight local landscapes with colorful photos adorning each cover. The newly formatted Yellow Pages are scheduled for distribution in the following markets:
Contrary to popular belief, Yellow Pages are widely used. In fact, a 2013 study from Local Search Association® stated 53 percent of people referred to printed Yellow Pages at least once a year and 75 percent of directory users referenced one or more display ads to find local businesses.
“Even with the advent of technology, many people still refer to print directories,” said John Gregory, vice president of print services and distribution for Dex Media. “We wanted to enhance the experience for yellow page users so they can easily connect with and buy from businesses in their local area.”
Dex Media has also taken steps to eliminate the number of yellow pages directories delivered to each address. Homeowners will receive one larger book instead of multiple, smaller books with minimal content. The more attractive cover and larger type make the book more appealing, easier to read and navigate. Larger ads with detailed buying information will help users connect to services in their neighborhoods and encourage them to support small businesses in the local community. Distribution of the new books began early June and will last throughout the end of the year.
All printed directories are primarily made from waste material, such as sawdust and pulp from sawmills using wood from sustainably managed forests. Since 2007, paper use for directories has declined by more than 70 percent. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), reports a recycling rate of newspapers and mechanical papers, including directories, of 70 percent.
