Tweets are about to give you the power to purchase.
Amazon and Twitter have teamed up so when an item you like goes through your Twitter feed, you can reply with the hashtag #AmazonCart, and it will be saved to your Amazon shopping cart.
While this may not affect most small businesses directly yet, it’s something you should keep an eye on. Here’s why:
- This makes the act of buying more social than ever. You’re essentially announcing to the world, “I plan to buy this.”
- Expect to see more mobile app integration like this, where we no longer have to leave one app and go to another to perform certain actions. It reduces friction so consumers might actually buy the thing they just saw and NOT get distracted by the next 50 tweets crowding their feed.
- It could be a godsend to retailers who rely on word-of-mouth. Imagine the possibilities if a customer tweets something positive about your product, and another person sees it and can immediately add that item to a shopping cart. (Just think of the power Oprah’s Favorite Things would have!)
